This Kit Includes: (1) Spacer With (2) Studs Installed (2) Carb Hold Down Nuts (2) Spacer Mounting Bolts (2) O-rings (1) Pipe Plug (2) Hose Clamps (1) Hose Splice This spacer was designed to prevent the heat from the engine from wicking up into the carburetor causing the carburetor to heat up beyond the boiling point of modern gasoline. When these cars were originally built they had leaded, higher octane fuels that had higher boiling points. Modern gasoline blends will boil somewhere around 180 degrees Fahrenheit. My testing has shown that the carburetors on the Ford 144, 170, and 200 CI engines can reach temperatures of 217 degrees during times of "heat soak" and it can reach temperatures of over 200 degrees during operation. This spacer has been successfully running in 100 degree heat with no heat related issues to date and the highest temperature recorded on the tested carburetor was 174 degrees. This spacer was designed to help eliminate the vapor lock and fuel boiling issues common with the ford inline 6 cylinder engines. This spacer acts as an insulator to help prevent heat from wicking up into the carburetor. The O-rings seal very well eliminating the need for the gaskets though they could be used if needed (if the carb base is warped or if the intake mounting surface is damaged). The linkage pivot shaft with E-clip and the PCV hose barb (if equipped) will need to be reused from the factory spacer. It modifies bearing and journal surface characteristics to prevent metal-to-metal contact.
