Jeremy Jordan, our 2003 Scholarship winner, has had a pretty busy summer this year. His first year at UNC was a total success. He still has not declared his major yet but will have to pretty soon. He took a welding class at the Fayetteville Technical Community College that lasted most of the summer.

He purchased a welding outfit and has finished his first welding project (a welding cart)

He finished taking off all the chrome from the car this summer and has it in the body shop to be painted. The body shop class at Fayetteville Technical Community College is doing the body work and will paint the car for him. He can’t participate since he is not a member of the class, however we have been allowed to go in and take some pictures for the progress reports.

I work at the community college and he took a continuing education welding class to help out with the car and that’s how we learned the college could possibly paint the car for us.

The shop instructor, Mr. Arthur Hall, came to our home to see if the car would be a good project car for his students and he commented on the excellent job Jeremy did on replacing the trunk.

He agreed to do the body work and paint it with the understanding that it would probably take the entire semester to finish, since his students would be doing the body work and paint from start to finish.

He tried to use stripper to get old paint off, but it just didn’t work, so the student’s sanded the entire car. The instructor had to cut out one piece of rusty metal on the driver’s side quarter panel and weld new metal back in. He had to do that part since none of his students had welding experience. Everything else is being done by students for a student.

The car is at and in the body shop. When the paint is complete Jeremy will be ready to order the weather-stripping kit and start the next step in the restoration.

Emma was chosen as our Scholarship recipient in 2003. Emma is the proudowner of a Cambridge Blue 1961 Falcon 2 door sedan. Emma was a sixteen year old Junior at Santa Cruz High School when we started. Emma proceeded to do small things to her interior, glove box liner, horn ring, steering wheel, arm rests, sunvisors and dyeing some items. She also replaced her heater box and defroster hoses. She made sure the car was safe by replacing the brake lines and redoing the brake system and kept the car cool with a new radiator.

While doing all this in her spare time Emma managed to be accepted by Brown University in Providence RI. where she is studying architecture. Emma let us know that she has been accepted to study architecture for 1 year at Columbia University in New York. She has retired her scholarship due to lack of time with her car on the West coast and her on the East coast. We wish her all the best and are very proud to have been able to help her.

Congratulations!
To Our New Winners for 2008!

Shanna King of Kellyville, Oklahoma.
She is restoring a 1971 Torino Formal Roof.

Shanna King was 15 ½ years old when she sent in her application to us in 2006. She is the proud owner of a 1970 Torino Formal roof that her and her Dad found in Oklahoma. Upon bringing the car home in April of 2006 she immediately started to work on removing the interior and the four flat tires it had, with a few new parts the engine started after sitting for 10 years. We look forward to helping her finish her project.

PROJECT COMPLETED!

As with all of our Scholarship recipients Josh has grown up over the time we have known him, he graduated from High School on May 27th, 2006. He married his High School sweetheart on July 29th. As most of us know, sometimes we need to sell our cars to provide for other things in life; in Josh’s case it was to provide a down payment for a new home for his family. As with all our recipients we are very proud of Josh and all the hard work he put into his Galaxie and wish him all the best in his future.
Congratulations on completing your car, and getting married!

Kevin Temple of Lake Linden, Michigan.
He is restoring a 1964 Fairlane Thunderbolt Clone.

Kevin Temple is a student at Michigan Tech University where he is working on a degree in Mechanical Engineering and the owner of a 1964 Fairlane. He has owned the car since 2003 and works on it in his spare time, which is very hard to come by with his class load and working everyday to pay for tuition and books. He has stripped the car and replaced the floor pans. He also built his own right front frame rail and lower core support. This will be an exciting project to follow and be a part of.
